Personalized Coaching

Looking for Individual Coaching? The Texas Iron coaches can prepare personalized training schedules to meet your goals, even if you don't live in the Austin area.  Coaching includes a personalized schedule, contact via email and phone for questions, modifications, feedback, etc... 

If you live in the Austin area your plan also includes a choice of two coached workouts per week of Tuesday PM run, Thursday PM group workout, or the swim classes on Wednesday or Sunday if you have already taken our Stroke and Efficiency Class.

Please note that local athletes may include other Texas Iron weekly workouts into this schedule at an additonal $25-$30 fee per month/per workout.  Please see listings below under Add Additional Weekly Workouts to your Schedule.

Coaches available for this service are Jamie, Andrea, Jeff and Jennifer.  Please check for availability and rates by contacting Andrea.

Cost:  Coaching fees range from $150 to $250 per 4 week blocks. 

Personal Sessions

Individually coached sessions are available.  If you would like a personal workout session with one of the Texas Iron coaches, please email Andrea for more information.  Prices start at $150 per session.

Ongoing Triathlon Training

This is a comprehensive training program designed for triathletes, or those looking to move into the sport of triathlon. This program features a weekly coached session (please see below), online forum at www.texasiron.net, and a monthly training schedule to follow outside of the group workouts.

Choose one workout per week from the following options:

  • Tuesday Time: 6:00 p.m. Run workout.  Meet at the main entrance to Barton Springs Pool for a coached run workout.
  • Thursday Time: TBD Tri Training workout.  This workout rotates through cycling, running, transitions, core strength, and swimming(only during summer months). Website will have posting on that week's current location.

Additonally, if you have taken the Texas Iron Stroke and Efficiency Class you may also choose from the following swim workouts:

**Please note that if you choose to add the swim class as your workout the cost is an additional $5 per swim class day chosen.***

  • Wednesday 7:30 p.m. Swim workout at Balcones Pool (Map Link) or open water if listed on the website under workout locations
  • Sunday 11 a.m. Swim workout at Balcones Pool (Map Link) or open water if listed on the website under workout locations

Athletes are asked to make a minimum three month commitment to the program in order to properly evaluate progress and improvement.

Course Cost – $75/month  (additional $5 per swim class day if you choose swim class as your option)

Add Additional Weekly Workouts to your Schedule

New to the Texas Iron Multisport programs!  Add additional weekly workouts to get the most out of your training.  Here's how it works:

1. You join the Ongoing Triathlon Training Program or the Women Only Ongoing Triathlon Training Program.

2. You automatically get one workout from the following list that you can attend during the week (included in the ongoing fee)

3. You can add additoinal workouts to your weekly regime at a monthly fee of $25-$30 per workout added.

  • Tuesday 6:00 p.m. Run workout.  Meet at the main entrance to Barton Springs Pool for a coached run workout : $25
  • **Wednesday 7:30 p.m. Swim workout at Balcones Pool (Map link ) or open water if listed on the website under workout locations** : $30
  • Thursday PM Ongoing Tri Training workout.  Involves interval training in swimming, running, biking, transitions and core strength work. The workouts are tailored to individual ability levels and emphasize energy systems based on athlete’s goals.  Workout location and time will be posted on website under workout locations : $25
  • **Sunday 11 a.m. Swim workout at Balcones Pool (Map Link ) or open water if listed on the website under workout locations** : $30

**If participating in the swim workouts YOU MUST have completed our Stroke and Efficiency Clinic **

Example workout selection:

  1. Ongoing Tri Training which includes the monthly training schedule ($75 per month)
  2. Tuesday 6:00 p.m. run workout (FREE: one workout included in $75 fee)
  3. Thursday PM Ongoing Tri Training group workout ($25 per month)
Total due per month based on this athlete's selection: $100

Stroke and Efficiency Clinic

This course now accommodates swimmers who have already taken our Stroke and Efficiency Clinic in the past and/or have a good background in swimming. The course runs in 8 week blocks (16 swim sessions) and continues all year long so athletes can swim on a continuous basis..

One track will focus on improving an athlete's comfort level and efficiency in the water. This program will focus on skill development and body position, as well as work on freestyle stroke mechanics through a series of swimming drills and exercises. Athletes will also be introduced to other strokes. No background in swimming is necessary but participants should be able to swim a minimum of 25 yards without interruption. Upon completion, athletes will have comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the drills and routines associated with a masters swim program. They should feel comfortable and at ease in any swim training environment.

The second track will review the drills and proper technique, but will also build on the athlete’s endurance and improve their swimming fitness. The workouts will be challenging but fun and will give the swimmers a chance to train in a positive atmosphere.

During the spring and summers sessions (pending weather) we will meet for an open water workout.  These sessions will take place at Mansfield Dam Park and prior notice will be posted for the workout dates.

Swim classes meet at the Balcones Pool, 12017 Amherst Drive unless otherwise noted on the Workout Location Page. ( Map Link)

Take the Duval exit from Mopac, head west approximately 2 blocks to the first light.  Turn right at the first light on to Amherst and the pool is located on your right.

New Summer Schedule!

Due to Balcones Pool's spring cleaning we will meet at Northwest Pool (map link and posted below) during the following dates/times -

Wednesday, April 16 - 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Sunday, April 20 - 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Wednesday, April 23 - 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Other then the above dates/times we are at Balcones Pool for the new summer schedule:

March 26 - June 4:

Wednesday - 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Sunday - 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

June 8 - August 10:

Wednesday - 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m.

Sunday - 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

Course Start Date –Next class start date scheduled for Wednesday, March 26th. 

Meets Wednesdays and Sundays

8 week course (16 sessions total) meets 2 times per week for 1hr.

Course Cost – $175 for new swimmers (going through track one) and $155 for repeat swimmers (those who have previously completed our stroke and efficiency class)

Women Only Ongoing Training

Athletes meet one time per week for a women only group workout.  Athletes have the option of adding on additional workouts during the week per our "Add Additional Workouts to Your Schedule" program (see above).

Female athletes will choose one of the following workouts to attend:

  • Tuesday 9:30 a.m.  – Coach Jen Reinhart will head this workout  (during summer months start time will be earlier)
  • Wednesday 6:00 p.m.  – Coach Susan Farago will head this workout (time may adjust between 6-7 p.m. start per daylight and workout)

    Jennifer Rienhart and Susan Farago will be the coaches for the women only training programs. The athlete to coach ratio in this program is low, therefore you will work directly with these great women as well as the other Texas Iron coaches.

  • Start Date – Ongoing with Tuesday AM group starting on February 5th,  Wednesday PM group starting in March
    Cost - $75 per month

    Sports Nutrition Analysis

    A Texas Iron Exclusive…Sports Nutrition Analysis!

     When balancing work, a social life, training, and racing, nutrition can often get overlooked.  Have you ever wondered how your diet stacks up against the best recommendations for endurance athletes?  Now you can know for sure. 

     In this one-on-one program, Coach Jeff will provide you with the tools you need to maximize your “eating potential!”  After an initial meeting, you’ll keep a week-long food and training diary when Jeff will then analyze and offer alternatives that meet recommendations from the American College of Sports Medicine. 

    Personalized benefits include:

    Saturday Morning Barton Springs Swim Followed by Bike Ride

    Swim at 8:00 a.m. and then bike ride following at 9:15 a.m.

    Open to anyone.  Meet at the shallow end of Barton Springs at 8:00 a.m. for an informal swim workout.  This is NOT a coached workout.  It is merely a chance for athletes to get together and do some open water swimming. 

    After the swim we will get dressed and head out for a bike ride starting at 9:15 a.m. from the entrance to Barton Springs Pool.   The bike will be on your own, with other athletes there, but will not be a supported bike ride.  You are fully responsible for bringing your own supplies necessary for the ride.  The ride will be however long you are planning to go that day and wherever you would like to ride.  It's a great opportunity to ride with others and you can make your own decision on routes.

    Please note: We typically don't swim if there's been a large rain storm prior to the morning of the swim, if there is thunder/lightning in the immediate area or the temperatures are EXTREMELY below freezing (ex: low 20's).  Make the call for yourself in terms of weather as we will not be posted updates on this workout being cancelled.  It's completely informal and your own personal decision.
